Medical evacuation to the LA

International Medical Transportation

Hi there,

I would like to talk about the medical evacuation to the LA in August.

There are various ways to contact our clinic regarding international medical evacuation, such as through the hospital, family, workplace, or insurance company. And there are times when we receive multiple consultations at the same time, on the other hand, the time we do not receive any contact at all.

Since the staff who usually work at the clinic go to transport patients, there are many cases that we are in rush for the preparations and the day arrives before you know it. Because of the time difference that cannot be overcome, even we use email small things to the overseas hospital, it takes time to get a confirmation.

This case was one that we were consulted about through the hospital. It was a case of a patient returning home after developing symptoms while traveling in Japan. These kinds of case, make me realize once again that you never know what might happen even while traveling.

Happily, the patient was stable during the flight.

Therefore, I will introduce two memorable things for this blog.

The one is about the seat. This time, we were using business class, but because it was a last-minute reservation, it was difficult to select a seat, and while the patient and nurse were seated next to each other, the doctor was seated a little further away. However, before takeoff, a nearby passenger noticed the situation and called out to me, and we were able to switch seats. When transporting a patient on a commercial flight, this kind of small consideration from the passengers around you are a great help.

The second was about the handover after arrival. Methods vary depending on the patient's condition, the type of aircraft, and the airport, but this time, local ambulance personnel were scheduled to pick up the patient on a stretcher. However, the stretcher would not fit on the aircraft, so the patient had to be carried by hand from the seat to the exit. It took about six large Americans to carry the patient. We live in a world where there are many convenient tools, but in the end, it all comes down to human power.

After arriving the airport, we could see the family’s smile. Although treatment will continue in the future, they seemed relieved for the time being. Seeing their relieved expressions, we also felt glad that we were able to transport the patient safely.

After the transfer, we have time until our midnight flight. So, we went to have a lunch nearby our hotel. We do not have much time to go to downtown and no energy to go far to eat, finally we got chicken at the Mexican restaurant. It was delicious though, the restaurant was playing old music that made us think it was from the 80s, and in a way, it had a strong local feel. Then, went to a local supermarket to get some souvenirs.

As a business trip, we do not have much time to enjoy the place of course, so I would like to go there and just have fun on my own.

At last, unfortunately recently many foreign tourists are coming to our clinic feeling unwell.

As the temperature changes dramatically from day to day, so please take care of your health!!
