In October 30, 2017, WHO issued the “Global TB Report 2017” and said “Global efforts to combat tuberculosis(TB) have saved an estimated 53 million lives since 2000 and reduced the TB mortality rate by 37%.

TB is still the top infectious killer in 2016, it also the main cause of death related to antimicrobial resistance and the leading killer of people with HIV.  There are about 10.4 million new TB cases worldwide, and 10% of these people who have HIV are infected.  1.7million people are died from TB and the number is including 400,000 people who were co-infected with HIV, but the number of death is 4 % decreasing from 2015.

Multidrug-resistant TB(MDR-TB) is still health crisis and health security threat.  490,000 of 600,000 new cases with resistance to rifampicin are cause of MDR-TB.  In the case of MDR-TB, only one in five cases of MDR-TB were started on treatment, but success of treatment in India and China are 39% compare to 54% at global.  TB preventative treatment is available for two main risk groups that are people who have HIV and children under age 5.  However, most people eligible for TB preventive treatment are not accessing it.

For ending the TB epidemic, it requires action against the risk factors and determinants of the disease.
